Technological Advances for Solar and Energy Storage Make Energy Solutions More Accessible
Q&A with Glenn Jakins, CEO | No one is weak
Can you share a little about Humless’s company and mission?
Since 2008, Humless’s vision has been to help people gain energy independence. Our first innovation is a portable solar generator that can run a refrigerator for a day and recharge during the day. Since then, Humless has continued to strive in our desire to provide products that build energy security and are less dependent on fossil fuels.
What is Humless doing to reduce dependence on fossil fuels?
Humless deliberately chose to use Lithium Iron Phosphate based batteries not only for their long life and reliability but also because they are earth friendly. As homeowners across the US embrace solar power, Humless helps them gather energy during the day, and store it for later use, when they need it to heat and light their homes.
Why is it more important than ever to focus on reducing dependence on fossil fuels?
With fossil fuel production and cost stability currently so weak, and affecting American consumer spending every day, reducing fossil fuel dependence for Americans is a major focus of Humless’ drive to in cost-effective energy security stability.
In addition, less fossil fuel means less greenhouse gas emissions. If we can change the way we live, we can reduce pollution and protect the environment around us. We need to make alternative energy more practical and affordable to ensure more people adopt these technologies.
What are some of the main developments in the alternative energy industry in recent years?
Never in history has there been a small energy storage system, which offers energy security this cheap. Today, most US households can afford energy security, with less reliance on the utility grid and fossil fuels. The outlook for fossil fuels at today’s high prices, paired with an aging utility/grid infrastructure that is shutting down more often than at any time in recent history, people want and need energy security that Humless can put in their house. If they add an EV car, we can also help with battery charging. Simply put, fossil fuels are a finite resource, with historically high costs. Energy storage is a clean, safe, quiet technology that is low cost compared to what was available before. How do these changes make alternative energy more accessible?
How do these changes make alternative energy more accessible?
These changes are making alternative energy more mainstream and affordable. As the technology is accepted by the masses, more people are trained within the technology to serve the growing demand. This in turn gives more people access at a lower cost.
Tell us about Humless’ new battery inverter and its UL Certification.
More than 95% of residential solar PV systems in the USA only have the ability to perform net metering. In other words, they produce electricity from their PV system and sell it back to the grid. If the grid fails, they will have no power and no way to use their PV system to power their home. Humless has designed a system that allows homeowners to net meter, but they can also create a microgrid where electricity from their PV system will power their home when the grid goes down. They can run their home during the day using the Humless hybrid inverter as well as storing power in our LiFePO4 batteries for later use. Our products conform to UL9540 standard.
What makes a hybrid system a more efficient and affordable option?
A hybrid system can sell power back to the grid as well as run the home off-grid. As many utilities begin to give less money back to the home owner for net metering, it makes sense to use the power produced by the solar panels to run the house even when the sun is out, and only sell the excess. grid power.
How do you see the Inflation Reduction Act helping the growth of energy storage?
The Inflation Reduction Act makes energy storage more affordable than ever. Previously, it was difficult to find an economic model with a decent return on energy storage solutions. Customers can now count standalone energy storage properties towards the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). Just as the initial ITC helped grow the solar industry by more than 200x, this new provision allows taxpayers to think about their energy needs holistically, and we can expect savings of energy grows with that thought. Consumers can now install things like the Humless Hybrid Universal Energy Storage System while getting a tax credit. This way, home owners can save money by using their own generated power at night through our reliable Lithium batteries. The ability to control your power is a liberating feeling, and the Inflation Reduction Act has put it within the reach of many people.
