A new application has been made for a 25ha expansion of a solar farm to be built between Claregalway and Athenry.
Renewable Energy Systems Ltd is seeking planning permission for a solar energy development on land in Ballymoneen/Grange East.
It consists of solar panels on ground mounted frames, along with 8 inverter substations, security fencing and cameras, access tracks, and cabling.
It will act as an extension of the 140ha Ballymoneen Solar Farm, for which RES received planning permission in January 2021.
The development will be spread across five parcels of land on the subject, approximately 0.5km to the east of Cregmore Park Golf Club.
The application states that the solar farm would be operational for 35 years if approved.
Planning permission was previously refused by the county council for an extension to the approved Ballymoneen Solar Farm on this site.
The council rejected a similar application in August, saying it was against a condition attached to the planning permission for that development.
A decision on this new planning application is due from the county council on January 6 next year.
