    Hurtigruten Norway plans wind-solar ship with 60 MWh of storage – pv magazine International

    Hurtigruten Norway has unveiled plans to construct its first zero-emission ship, powered by photo voltaic and wind power, forward of its one hundred and thirtieth anniversary. The corporate goals to develop the world’s strongest cruise ship, referred to as Sea Zero. It’s 135 meters (443 toes) lengthy and has 270 cabins that may accommodate 500 friends and 99 crew members.

    The venture entails the collaboration of the Norwegian analysis institute Sintef and 12 different companions. The ship will probably be outfitted with three retractable wind sails built-in with photo voltaic panels, contra-rotating propellers, and a number of thrusters. The three autonomous platforms will host 1,500 m² of photo voltaic panels and an air space of ​​750 m², reaching a most peak of 50m when totally prolonged.

    To make sure steady energy, the ship has batteries with a mixed capability of 60 MWh positioned on the outer sides. These batteries will probably be charged through the ship’s keep in port, enabling a spread of 300 to 350 nautical miles.     Gerry Larsson-Fedde, senior vice chairman of marine operations at Hurtigruten Norway, says the ship will want seven to eight costs through the 11-day voyage.
