Singapore-based Maxeon Photo voltaic Applied sciences has revealed that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in opposition to China-based Tongwei Photo voltaic and its German subsidiary, Tongwei Photo voltaic GmbH.
Maxeon stated it filed the lawsuit in Germany’s Dusseldorf district court docket. It claimed that Tongwei infringed European Patent No. EP3522045 B1 for shingled photo voltaic cell panel know-how. Maxeon makes use of tec in its Efficiency Line photo voltaic modules.
“The mental property behind our shingled photo voltaic cell know-how is the results of investments and technical growth, the ensuing Efficiency Line surpasses standard panels in effectivity, energy, and reliability,” stated Maxeon CEO Invoice Mulligan. “In September 2020, Maxeon filed a lawsuit in opposition to Canadian Photo voltaic in Japan, which was subsequently settled in April 2022. With this newest submitting in opposition to Tongwei Photo voltaic, Maxeon continues its vigorous enforcement of its worthwhile mental property rights to ban unauthorized use.”
Tongwei did not reply pv journal request for remark on the time of publication.
The Efficiency Line PV panel structure and manufacturing processes had been pioneered by Cogenra Photo voltaic, a Silicon Valley startup acquired by SunPower in 2015. Within the subsequent 2020 spinoff from SunPower, Maxeon retained the mental property associated to the photo voltaic cell and module applied sciences, in addition to the SunPower model within the greater than 100 markets it serves, in line with an organization assertion.
